Remember the Spirit of Conference

Conference is such a powerful tool for good. I felt the Spirit bear testimony to me numerous times throughout the sessions of the truthfulness of the Gospel. I wanted to make a platform for people to discuss what feelings they had during conference. I want this to be a positive experience for all.

This board is meant to be open to all. Please share the link with your friends and family.

Please do not debate on this board.

One of my favorites which I heard a few times during this conference, "A man never stands taller than when he kneels to pray."

I loved all of the talks - but the one that is standing out the most in my mind is by Sis. Beck. She spoke to my heart as she talked about the Power of Womanhood and the importance of what we are doing as Mothers. I know that I can always improve in my mothering skills. It is so important that we are raising our children with strong testimonies of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Sometimes people just want to know what the church is. Those who are curious in this general way deserve clear and accurate information that comes directly from those of us who are members so that they do not have to rely on the incomplete answers, half truths, or false statements that may come from the media or other outside voices. The many misunderstandings and false information about the church are somewhat our own fault for not clearly explaining who we are and what we believe.

I loved the speaker (I think it was Pres. Monson) who told the story of Jacob, Rachel and Leah in the Old Testament. Life isn't always easy, but if we remember that God remembers us, it sure helps to give us good perspective. I love this quote:
"In this day and age of 1 hour dry cleaning and 1 minute food franchises it may at times seem to some of us that a loving Heavenly Father has misplaced our promises or that He's put them on hold or filed them under the wrong name. Such were the feelings of Rachel. But with the passage of times we encounter 4 of the most beautiful words in holy writ: 'And God remembered Rachel.' When Heaven's promisees sometimes seem afar off, I pray that each of us will embrace these exceeding great and precious promises and never let go. And just as God has remembered Rachel, God will remember you."

Have patience, and as we look back, we will know that He is with us every step of the way.

Why do these quotes seem to be generally coming from the relief society?

It's remarkable how the Holy Ghost can instruct and edify those who are ready and willing to receive. It is marvelous how each and every conference can uplift and inspire our hearts and mind to do righteous works. I was especially touched by the remarks of Keith H. Hilbig, Jeffrey R. Holland, and Russel M. Nelson. Elder Hilbig's talk reminded me of my own stubbornness in resisting the opportunity of coming closer to Christ. I find myself being rebellious because I feel comfortable where I am. As I search the Scriptures, and try to apply the teachings of the prophets, ancient and modern, I am humbled and able to find opportunities to become more Christlike.

"...the most important qualification for all of us serving in the kingdom is to be comfortable in bearing witness of the divinity of the Savior. A peace came over me at that time and has stayed with me since because I love the Savior and have had spiritual experiences that allow me to testify of Him. I rejoice in the opportunity to bear witness of Jesus Christ in all the world (see D&C 107:23), notwithstanding my inadequacies."

It is interesting that these last couple of weeks I have had many opportunities to talk to classmates about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A theme that is mentioned often is how a person is able to distinguish between feelings of emotion and the whisperings of the Holy Ghost.
How blessed are those who have had the gift of the Holy Ghost confirmed upon them. How much more blessed are they who have learned to recognize the spirit's sweet promptings of knowledge, wisdom, and love. How great the goodness of our God. How infinite is his wisdom, grace, and mercy. His arms of mercy are extended unto all who will have Him to be their God and harken unto his commandments.

I love this blog - thank you for taking the time to put this "out there". I noticed that on President Packer's quote he is attributed as an "Acting Member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles". I think that should be fixed to either say Acting President . . . or President . . .

Thanks again for helping bring more light and truth to the "web".

“The suffering you endure from resisting or from leaving a life-style of addiction or perversion is not a hundredth part of that suffered by your parents, your spouse or your children, if you give up. Theirs is an innocent suffering because they love you. To keep resisting or to withdraw from such a life-style is an act of genuine unselfishness, a sacrifice you place on the altar of obedience. It will bring enormous spiritual rewards.

“Remember that agency, that freedom of choice that you demanded when you forsook your covenants? That same agency can now be drawn upon to exert a great spiritual power of redemption.”

President Boyd K. Packer, President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, “Covenants,” Ensign, Nov. 1990, 86.

President Packer is "Acting President" of the Quorum of the Twelve, not "Acting Member" as you have attributed it.

"My dear sisters, do not pray for tasks equal to your abilities, but pray for abilities equal to your tasks. Then the performance of your tasks will be no miracle, but you will be the miracle."
